Release notes

v0.10.3 - An address for the game

Features

  • Presentation site: onzatro.com now presents the game (a real match live, the season, the screens in pictures) in French and English; the game is played at play.onzatro.com

Compatibility

  • Games are saved in the browser, per address: earlier games are found at onzatro.com/saves, which exports them to a file. At play.onzatro.com, "Saved games" then "Import a file" brings them back. The game's old addresses (onzatro.com/home...) now redirect to play.onzatro.com

v0.10.2 - Player morale

Features

  • Morale: every player of your club has a morale, driven by his playing time against the role promised in his contract (a key player wants to play nearly every minute, a substitute hardly any), his wage against the market and the team's mood. New Morale column in the squad (with a sort), a face in the tactics list when he is unhappy, and the details on his sheet
  • Confidence: an unhappy player loses confidence match after match, and plays worse
  • Transfer requests: a player who stays at his lowest for too long asks to leave and puts himself on the transfer list, at no discount: keep him and he plays worse. You see it in the day's banner, in the news and in a reminder on every screen. Playing him again may change his mind; taking him off the list or refusing an offer for him hurts him. He only renews for a bigger role than his (a key player: the same one), and an unhappy player asks a little more to renew

Improvements

  • Tables sorted by column: the sort buttons are gone; click a column header to sort ascending, again to sort descending, an arrow shows the direction. Squad, transfer search and squad tab, academy
  • Nothing hidden on small screens: tables scroll sideways instead of hiding columns (the squad's Contract column was cut off). In the transfers' squad tab the actions stay visible on the right edge
  • Drop a counter-offer: in sent offers and on the player's sheet, a "Pull out" button clears a club's counter-offer, and its badge with it; a new offer is still possible
  • Live standings: both teams' position and points show under their names during the match
  • Sheets from matches: click a player to open his sheet, in the match report, the live highlights and the last match's scorers. Live, the match pauses while you read it, and nothing is decided there before the final whistle
  • Opponent's lineup: on the pre-match poster (tactics, calendar), "Lineup and squad" under each team opens its sheet with its probable XI on the pitch (fatigue and suspensions included) and its substitutes; click a player to open his sheet

v0.10.1 - Contract negotiation

Features

  • Negotiate a contract: once a club accepts your offer, you still have to convince the player. New Contracts tab in transfers: offer a wage, a length (1 to 5 seasons) and a role (key player, starter, rotation, substitute, prospect). He answers at once: he signs, or refuses and names his price. On the third refusal he walks away and the transfer is off. A negotiation stays open when you leave the screen, until he signs or you drop it: it counts in the transfers badge
  • His demands: a bigger role costs more, so does a length far from what he wants, and every refusal makes him more demanding. He will not accept a role too far below his place in your squad. A range shows what he accepts; "His terms" always signs
  • Renewals: players of your club in the final year of their contract can be renewed at any time of the season, from the Contracts tab or their sheet. Without a renewal they leave on a free in the off-season. A reminder shows in spring
  • Free agents: a signing fee (30% of their value) instead of their full value, then their contract is negotiated

Compatibility

  • Your club's contracts are no longer extended automatically: remember to renew the ones you want to keep before the season ends

v0.10.0 - Contracts

Features

  • Contracts: every player has a 1 to 5 season contract and a role (key player, starter, rotation, substitute, prospect). Its end shows on the player sheet and in a new squad column (gold in the final year), with a sort by contract end
  • Expiring contracts: in the off-season, clubs extend the players they want to keep; the others leave on a free. For now your club's contracts are extended automatically: negotiation comes next
  • Free market: out-of-contract or released players who have played stay on the market from one window to the next (two summers at most), in the search with their last division. Clubs shop there too
  • Final year: a player in the last season of his contract costs less, at other clubs and in the offers you receive

Improvements

  • Wages: a wage is set for the whole contract and changes on renewal
  • Release: the severance is half of what is left on the contract

Compatibility

  • Players in an existing game get a running contract on load, with a slightly lower wage (the lag of a contract signed a while ago); club income drops to match right away; the free market fills up next summer

v0.9.2 - Polish

Features

  • Champion stars: a club's league titles show as stars above its crest (club screen, home, club sheet, sidebar, match poster), from the end of the season
  • Browse players: in the squad, the player sheet has arrows on each side, and the left and right arrow keys (or a swipe on a phone) move to the previous or next player in the table order
  • Squad: the XI badge now sits next to the name of the starters

Fixes

  • Tactics pitch: a player's card shows his own position, not the slot he fills (the out-of-position malus is still shown)
  • Windows: click outside a window to close it, as with Escape
  • Half-time: in the live pitch view the teams change sides for the second half (and extra time)

v0.9.1 - A game your way

Features

  • Game settings: once you have picked your club, you set up your game before starting. Start: start of the summer window, middle, 2 weeks or 1 week before the end, or the last day (the world moves on to that day without you, your club plays its first matchdays if any). Starting budget: tight, normal, comfortable or unlimited (the board's grant is multiplied, or the budget set to 100M for any club, without counting against the finance objective). Transaction flexibility: soft, normal or hard (the prices clubs ask, what they pay for your players and how they answer low offers)
  • Shirt numbers: every player has a number (1 for the goalkeeper, 9 for the striker...). Change your players' numbers in the squad; a number already worn is swapped with its holder. Purely visual, no effect on matches. It shows on the player card
  • Shots: in the box, players shoot instead of passing back, and they try their luck from distance (a third of all shots, as in real football). A long shot is worth little, and a packed central defence blocks it. Philosophies were rebalanced around these shots
  • Live pitch: during your match, the Follow view now opens on the pitch seen from above: the ball and the twenty-two players move with the play, the ball carrier is named and the latest commentary line stays underneath. The pitch shows the engine's real move (through ball with the runner going at the last moment, long ball, switch of play, cross) and the real set piece, with its taker. Teams play as a unit: a straight, level back line, marking, forwards on the offside line, wingers hugging the touchline, full-backs overlapping, pressing triggered by a back pass, a low block that waits, three runs into the box on a cross or corner, an empty box on a penalty. Players run at their own pace (real players' speed and acceleration), every move plays over its real time (a passing sequence shows all its passes, the carrier moves forward with the ball, the receiver goes for the pass), the nearest defender presses the ball carrier, and the ball goes to its spot at every stoppage (corner, goal kick, throw-in, free kick, kick-off with each team in its own half). On the pitch, play runs in slow motion and stoppages take the time to set up: about 5 min 30 for a match at x2. The full commentary is one tab away. Players hold their positions according to their team's style and philosophy: a tactical board, not real tracking. Also when replaying the match

Compatibility

  • Matches play out a little differently (shots): an existing game carries on with the new shooting
  • Existing games carry on as before, with normal transactions and default numbers

v0.9.0 - Decisions in the match

Features

  • Orders in the match: kick-off opens your match live, on its own page, before the day passes. Play stops by itself at half-time (you press Play for the second half), on a red card or when one of your starters runs on empty; the Pause button stops it whenever you like. You can make substitutions, set the style sliders, change philosophy, pick the penalty, corner and free-kick takers, or leave the substitutions to the assistant
  • Match page: the match is a page of its own, without the game menu, so it gets the whole screen (nothing to leave by accident: the cross asks first). The score, clock and controls stay on top whatever the view, and the clock keeps running while you switch views. Four views: Follow (key events, commentary, live stats), Lineup (the same pitch and bench as Tactics, with each player's fitness and match rating), Style (gauges and philosophy) and Takers
  • Substitutions by touch or drag: tap a starter then a bench player, or drag one onto the other. A substitution or order you have given can be cancelled until it takes effect
  • Substitutions: five at most, in three stoppages plus half-time (where a substitution costs no stoppage). A substitution of yours takes one of those the assistant had planned, and the assistant never takes off a player you just brought on. You can also turn the automatic substitutes off and do everything yourself; the choice is remembered for your next matches
  • Next stoppage: an order takes effect at the next stoppage in play (throw-in, foul, corner, goal...). Nothing that has already been played changes, and the match reveals nothing more: it resumes at the second it stopped
  • Finishing the match: "Skip to the end" lets the assistant (the automatic substitutes) play the rest of the match, "Finish" validates the day with your orders. Leaving the match early asks for confirmation, then the assistant finishes it from that second
  • Commentary: a line says when a bench changes its game plan

Improvements

  • Player cards on the pitch: on Tactics and in a live match, every player on the pitch is a small card: rarity border from the rating, rating, position, portrait, name, and in a match the match rating and freshness. On phones the card gives up the sub-position so four players fit on a row
  • Player sheet: it opens on the player's card (portrait, rating, position and his six main qualities, like a FIFA card), with rating, value, club and statistics grouped next to it
  • Goals: a goal no longer stops the match: a full-screen effect in the scoring team's colour, with its crest and the scorer, plays over it
  • Reduced motion: the live match jumps from one stoppage to the next instead of showing everything at once

Compatibility

  • The game moves to onzatro.com: the old address redirects there, but saves live in your browser per address, so export them from Saved games on the old address and import them on the new one
  • Orders are not kept in the save: if you reload the page mid-match, the day has not passed and the match replays identically, without your orders
  • Games started with the old match engine, and the day the transfer window changes your squad before the match (winter opening with pending deals), have no interactive match: the day passes as before and the match replays afterwards

v0.8.1 - Fixes

Fixes

  • Bench: a keeper can go on the bench from the stands, and swap places with any player. If the keeper is sent off, the substitute keeper comes on
  • Followed players: a signed player leaves your followed list, and the home screen only counts players still followed

Improvements

  • Team colours: the live match, the match report and the next-match poster use the two clubs' colours (gauges, timeline marks, key events, tabs). If the colours look alike, the away side takes its secondary colour
  • Playing style: the gauges read better (Open / Compact, Predictable / Inventive, Fair / Rough)

v0.8.0 - Home screen, in-season progression and a summer-long window

Features

  • Home: a new screen brings the essentials together in a grid of tiles that fits the screen, no scrolling on a computer: next match (rank, rating, system and form of both clubs), transfer window (days left, offers waiting), standings around your club (as many teams as there is room for), last result and form, improving players, and scrolling headlines. The game opens on it
  • In-season progression: player ratings move on the 1st of each month during the season (young players who play rise, veterans decline), the end of the season settles the year. A green or red arrow shows how much a rating moved since the start of the season; it resets every season
  • Player height: every player has a height, around that of his position (tall keepers and centre-backs, shorter wingers). It counts in the air: crosses, corners, free kicks, long balls, and a tall keeper comes off his line better on crosses
  • Settings: one button holds language, theme and text font. The readable font replaces the pixel font of the interface; titles and numbers keep their style
  • Followed players: a "Follow" star on a player sheet adds him to the Followed tab of transfers, kept in the save
  • Search by profile: prospect, special, leader or veteran filter
  • List for sale from the sheet: your players' sheet puts them up for sale or takes them off the market
  • New signings: an arriving player wears a NEW badge and stays in the stands, out of the automatic line-up and bench, until you place him yourself
  • Suggested replacements: on Tactics, touching a starter suggests the best bench and stands players for his position on the right

Improvements

  • Transfer window: summer runs from June 1 to August 31 (it stays open through the first matchdays), winter lasts all January, from the first season. A new game starts on June 1
  • Visible window: a strip on every screen says the window is open, until when and how many days are left
  • Tabs: Tactics (line-up, style and philosophy, set pieces), Calendar (month, last match, season fixtures) and Academy (my youngsters, recruitment) split into tabs instead of scrolling
  • Tactics: the list on the right no longer shows the starters, already on the pitch
  • Offers received: each card takes the buying club's colours and shows more about your player (age, rating, value, wage, season, fitness)
  • Offers sent: when a club makes a counter-offer, the gauge to answer it opens by itself
  • Club walking away: after a counter-offer too expensive, the offer stays on screen, as refused, for a week
  • Free agents: the tab is gone, they are in the search ("Free agents only" box)
  • Live match: near full screen, with score and commentary in the middle, key events on the left (goals, assists, cards, substitutions, injuries) and on the right the stats moving during the match (shots, possession, passes, fouls, corners, cards), the match's real counters: at the final whistle, the match report shows the same figures. Three speeds (x1, x2, x4). At the final whistle, the players' match report shows right away
  • Central play: the philosophy also favours the holding and attacking midfielders

Fixes

  • Standings: changing country shows its first division, even when a second division was open

Compatibility

  • In games in progress, the winter window already lasts all January, the summer one moves to June 1 - August 31 next summer; monthly progression and height apply right away

v0.7.0 - New Match Engine and Full Squads

Features

  • New match engine, Zaflo: in new games, a match is played action by action. Passes, dribbles, crosses, shots and fouls follow one another zone by zone, depending on the players actually there. Corners, free kicks, penalties, cards and offsides come out of the play. A booked player holds back, even more so in front of a strict referee
  • Added time: each half has its own, based on the time lost (goals, cards, substitutions). The live match, the match report and the calendar show 45+2', 90+4'
  • Tactical counters: with Zaflo, every game plan has its good and bad opponents. Counter-attacking punishes a side that presses high but runs into a low block; possession wears a low block down but suffers under pressing; the low block holds sides that press and attack; central play breaks through a thin centre (4-4-2, 3-4-3) but not three centre-backs; wing play goes around a packed centre. On average no philosophy and no system is worth more than another, and an exceptional player still weighs more than a wrong tactical choice
  • Computer-run clubs' philosophies: every manager has a playing philosophy, drawn at random like their style, and their club plays it. It changes with the manager. You see it in the scouting report and on club sheets; when you take over a club, you keep the one in place (change it on Tactics)
  • Scouting report: under the next match poster (Tactics and calendar), the opponent's traits (presses high, sits deep, very attacking, cautious, thin or packed centre) and their philosophy: working out how to beat them is up to you
  • Five substitutions: up to five changes per team, in three stoppages plus half-time
  • Commentary: new lines describe dribbles, through balls and blocked shots
  • Full squads: every club now has 23 to 25 players (26 at most): 11 starters, 7 substitutes (two per line and the backup keeper) and youngsters in reserve for injuries and suspensions. Clubs keep that size from one season to the next: when a line no longer has its two substitutes, they sign a squad player, then the reserve fills the squad
  • Club creation: the squad is either Standard (23 to 25 players, like every club) or Large (26, the maximum)

Improvements

  • Rebalanced systems: the 3-5-2 no longer beats every system, the 4-2-3-1 attacks with its three attacking midfielders, a 4-3-3's wingers drop back without the ball. Pressing high tires players, sitting deep saves energy
  • Finances: higher wage cap (€38M in D1, €12.6M in D2) and adjusted income to make room for the substitutes and the reserve youngsters
  • Match report: the Def column counts balls won (tackles and interceptions), a key pass is the last pass before the shot, an own goal no longer counts as a shot
  • Commentary reviewed, old engine included: a penalty no longer "takes the lead" on an equalizer, no more "doubles the lead" at 3-2, "1st penalty of the shootout", the mood lines match the score

Compatibility

  • Games in progress keep the old match engine to the end; only new games play with Zaflo
  • In games in progress, a computer-run club takes a philosophy at its next change of manager
  • Games in progress keep their squads; computer-run clubs fill theirs at the next summer window

v0.6.0 - Match Poster & Real Deals

Features

  • Deals to confirm: you can make an offer without having the money, with a full squad or over the wage cap. If the club accepts, you have 5 days to confirm and pay (time to sell a player or make room), otherwise the deal falls through; you can also pull out. Accepting a club's asking price also waits for your confirmation. The other way round, when a club accepts your asking price, the sale waits for your confirmation: no player leaves and no money is spent without you
  • A year before moving again: a transferred player can't receive any offer for a year, neither from you nor from other clubs. His sheet tells from which window
  • Next match poster: on Tactics, both clubs face to face with crest, position, rating, system and form, the matchday, the date and the referee in the middle
  • Calendar: a matchday can be clicked, the match report for a played match, the poster for a match to come
  • Club sheets: in the standings, clicking a club opens its sheet (position, record, form, manager, stadium, budget, squad)
  • Player of the match: his name shines gold on the match report

Improvements

  • Dropdowns: all in the game's style, with the keyboard as with the mouse
  • Large screens: the content widens instead of leaving empty bands
  • Header: the date sits between the preferences and the buttons, and ticks day by day when you skip ahead
  • Standings: country and division are picked from lists; the Simulate the season button is gone
  • Live match: no more See the result button; at full time, the highlights and Close, the match report stays in the calendar
  • Club: both secondary objectives get their badge, the finance explanations are gone, past seasons only show once a season is over
  • Squad: the tags legend gives way to a tooltip on each tag
  • Transfers: the Moves tab is gone, the search filters line up, the suggested offer is rounded to one decimal

Compatibility

  • Games in progress load as they are; transfers made before this version are not locked

v0.5.1 - Bench, Substitutions & Careers

Features

  • Bench and stands like the line-up: on Tactics, the bench and the stands work like the XI, by dragging a player or touching two players, no more arrows. A bench that isn't full shows its free place, which an outfield player from the stands can take; the stands show one while a substitute is picked or dragged. Every row has an info button that opens the player sheet
  • Position-based substitutions: the substitute whose position is closest to the outgoing player's comes on. A centre-back is replaced by a centre-back, else by a full-back or a defensive midfielder, never by a striker; a full-back can replace the one on the other side. The keeper no longer comes off tired, and the automatic bench no longer keeps a backup keeper: he would never come on
  • Defenders assist: defenders carry the ball too, full-backs more than centre-backs, and now set up goals
  • Live coach career: on the Club screen, seasons and record count the season in progress from its first match
  • Player of the season: defenders, midfielders and forwards again each have about a third of the chances to win it
  • Match report: a player who went off shows his minutes in red, with an arrow
  • Release notes: a What's new button flags each new version until you open its notes. Every version is on the Release notes page, at the bottom of the title screen

Fixes

  • Player careers: the sheet showed matches played before the game (166 matches, 0 goals) and never moved during the season. It now counts only the game, season in progress included: every player starts from zero. A player who moved to another division mid-season keeps his earlier matches
  • Tables: rows and columns are visible in every table (standings, squad, match report...), which looked flat
  • Game header: buttons no longer run off the screen on small phones, large phones in landscape and small laptop screens. The date drops the year when space is short

Compatibility

  • Games in progress are converted on load: matches from before the game leave the players' careers. They still count for the Veteran and Leader tags

v0.5.0 - Match Realism

Features

  • Set-piece takers: penalty, corner and free kick, picked on Tactics or automatic (the best taker on the pitch), for every team. The penalty taker shoots first in a shootout, the corner taker sets up headers
  • Bench and stands: pick your bench (7 players, in order of entry), the others go to the stands. "Auto bench" goes back to the automatic choice
  • Names: many more first and last names per nationality, almost no namesakes left in a squad

Fixes

  • Scorer and assist: a scorer can no longer assist himself (almost one goal in five did)
  • Goals too close together: a goal is followed by the kick-off, no more two goals in the same minute
  • Penalties: taken by strikers (a defender took one in seven), scored a bit less often
  • Confidence: two namesakes no longer share their goals, only players who played gain or lose confidence, and an own goal costs some

Compatibility

  • The new names only apply to new games

v0.4.1 - Bids for Your Players

Fixes

  • AI bids: clubs offered barely more than the value of your best players, while they ask up to twice the value of theirs. Their bids now follow the same rules: a substitute around his value, a starter about 1.3 times (more for a club at the top of the table), a star about twice. A transfer-listed player still goes for 0.85 to 1 times his value

v0.4.0 - Rankings & Match Report

Features

  • Player rankings: the Rankings screen gets a Players tab: goals, assists, goals + assists, average rating, clean sheets, cards and minutes, in the division, the country or the world, by line
  • Match report: team stats and every player's (rating, minutes, entry, goals, assists, cards, man of the match), plus shots, key passes, tackles and saves for your last match. At full time of the live match, on the calendar and from any played match
  • Player sheet: stats for this season, last season and the career, cards and clean sheets. Assists column in the squad, sheet opened from Tactics
  • Simulate season asks for confirmation

Improvements

  • Dialogs (sheet, match, confirmation): Escape closes, focus stays inside and goes back where it was
  • The off-season summary is gone: champions and moves are in the news, final tables in the rankings

v0.3.0 - Lighter Saves

Improvements

  • Saves half the size: 8.7 MB instead of 16.6 MB at the end of the first season, then flat (10.6 MB after six seasons instead of 20). Only your last match keeps its full play-by-play, to be watched again
  • Background saving: saving no longer freezes the screen, a new game is saved in a fraction of a second
  • Error messages translated into English

Fixes

  • Merged players: rarely, two generated players got the same id and became one

Compatibility

  • Games in progress are converted on load

v0.2.0 - Sent Offers & Calendar

Features

  • Sent offers: a Transfers tab lists each club's answer to your offers. After a refusal or a counter-offer, pay the asking price or make a new offer in one click
  • Price range: before offering, a gauge places the seller's price, the lowest offer that still gets a counter-offer and the reason for the price (substitute, starter, club chasing the title...). After a counter-offer, the exact price
  • Transfers badge: the menu counts offers received and counter-offers waiting, on every screen
  • Line-up: drag and drop between the pitch and the list with a mouse, linked hover, position bonus shown on the pitch when you pick a substitute, impossible slots greyed out
  • Varied calendar: a round falls on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, every league has its own calendar. Two weeks of preseason

Fixes

  • Touching the same player twice cancels the selection (no more empty manual line-up), cards no longer jump when picked
  • The calendar marks the transfer window from its real opening in the first season

Compatibility

  • Games in progress keep their dates, the next season gets the varied days

v0.1.0 - First Release

  • A world: 5 countries, 10 leagues, 194 clubs with pun names (Too Big Paris, Kings Monaco...), promotion and relegation, a season played day by day
  • Your career: take a club or create your own (name, crest, formation, reserve). Board objectives, confidence, sacking, new club
  • Tactics: formation, playing style, philosophy, manual or automatic line-up, captain, fatigue and suspensions
  • Transfers: search the whole world, negotiation and counter-offers, free agents, transfer list, summer and winter windows
  • Academy: 16 to 19-year-olds with a star-rated potential, to sign, release or recruit
  • Finances: wages and salary cap, income every matchday (TV, sponsor, gate, shop), popularity and stadium, season accounts
  • Living world: news, transfer rumors, more or less strict referees
  • Live match: follow your match minute by minute and watch it again from the calendar
  • Saves: several games, export and import
  • French and English, dark and light theme
